Recently I got introduced to Rick Schwartz’s (known as Domain King®) new website HallOfShame.com, intended to expose companies and individuals guilty of reverse domain name hijacking.
Companies who don’t want to pay what the domainer is asking for a particular domain name, they see UDRP channel as the easy way to acquire that domain name. They first register that particular name as their own trademark and then seek UDRP to get it.
Rick Schwartz has listed companies and individuals who were proven wrong by the UDRP decision. It quotes “Someday there will be a legal and criminal penalty but until then there is a social penalty if you choose. And believe me, the social penalty at Hall of Shame is much more severe than a fine that can be easily absorbed and forgotten about.” If you’re a domainer – visit this page and tweet.
